UNICEF: Paddington’s Postcards

What a week it has been for students in Room 12! Students did an incredible job helping to successfully organize and run a ‘Toonie Drive’ to help collect enough money for Andrew Sibbald students to be able to participate in Canada’s UNICEF: Paddington’s Postcards.

This past week a number of students in Room 12 were involved in creating posters for the school, writing morning announcements, counting up donations and going into classrooms to talk about why and how our Toonie Drive came into fruition. Students were extremely engaged in this process and became true global citizens. We are happy to report that students were able to collect over $240 during their three-day drive. This means students will hopefully be receiving a postcard from Paddington Bear himself during the month of May and more importantly they have helped to enhance the lives of children in need in many different countries around the world. Talk about being the “Power of One”! We hope you enjoy seeing a photo gallery of the work that has unfolded in our classroom over the past few weeks.

Grade 3 Social Studies (3.2): Global Citizenship

Learning Intentions:
  • I recognize how my actions might affect people elsewhere in the world.
  • I understand how the rights, responsibilities and roles of citizens in communities around the world are the same or different from those of Canadian citizens.
  • I understand how individuals and groups can contribute to positive change in the world.
  • I can explain how international organizations support communities in need throughout the word (e.g., UNICEF).
