ELEV8 LACROSSE

Students in Room 12 received two lessons with ELEV8 Lacrosse this week. When polled by coach Dan, several students stated that they had heard of lacrosse, but had never had the opportunity to play it. This week’s introduction to lacrosse left many students eager to learn more about the sport, and some even mentioned that they would like to start playing lacrosse at the community level!

To begin with, coach Dan helped to educate students on the origin and indigenous roots of the sport in Canada and then he had everyone actively involved in scooping and tossing the ball. Students then participated in a variety of developmentally appropriate movement activities and games while being encouraged to interact positively with others. Coach Dan did an incredible job getting students to demonstrate fair play while also focusing on skills such as running, jumping, throwing and catching, which are fundamental to any sport.

In addition to this, students were challenged to hop, twice, turn and stop their bodies through the use of obstacle courses and fun drills. This week, students were also introduced to running with the ball, catching and cradling the ball, along with passing, shooting and dodging.

Students are hopeful that ELEV8 Lacrosse will be back at Andrew Sibbald next year! Several students in Room 12 mentioned that they would like to continue to further develop their lacrosse skills by participating in more active and engaging physical activities like the ones offered to them this week.
